Job Title: Assistant Laboratory Manager

Location: Redwood City, CA

Purpose Statement:
The Research and Development Assistant Laboratory Manager is responsible for the efficient operation of the R&D facility located in Redwood City, California, in compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines. They/She/He will collaborate with EH&S, Regulatory, Facilities, and Purchasing teams to establish and maintain standard work around Safety, Lab Procedures, Site Operations, Purchasing & Receiving, and Inventory. The Assistant Laboratory Manager’s efforts will engage and empower the R&D team, following the Danaher Core Behaviors to Deliver Results and Win as a Team.

Essential Functions:
Manage the daily operations of the laboratory to meet organizational and regulatory requirements

Spearhead team effort focusing on lab organization, laboratory services improvements and standard work to support GLP-compliance

Organizes operations through the appropriate, delegation of responsibilities and authority in accordance with regulatory guidelines.

Evaluates existing systems processes and develops action plans for service and quality issues identified. Implements changes to drive improvement.

Responsible for the ongoing assessment, monitoring, and creation of action plans to address all regulatory issues.

Implements a communication plan to ensure that department scientists are well informed. Fosters open communication by offering, encouraging, and accepting suggestions from staff regarding department operations.

Coordinate work service requests, instrument calibration or repair, obtain quotes for service, schedule on-site visits with external vendors and make critical decisions to support internal team’s office and laboratory operational needs including inventory maintenance

Manage cold storage equipment monitoring and response

Lead lab and site safety meetings and maintain documentation required to meet standards set by regulatory agencies

Assures compliance with GLP standards. Develops and implements policies and procedures (examples include in-person personnel training, laboratory reagent inventory, and instrument calibration) and verifies annual review of all policies and procedures.

Use problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and address site operations issues promptly

Provide technical support at the bench in ongoing research projects by planning and executing experiments and analysis

Demonstrates behavior consistent with the Integrated DNA Technologies Core Values.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Licensure, Certification, Registration:
B.A. or B.S. degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, or other relevant field required

Minimum of 3 years work experience in R&D laboratory setting required; Over 5 years work experience preferred

Professional Experience:
Working in a next-generating sequencing laboratory and familiarity with standard NGS lab equipment preferred

Knowledge of lab safety protocols and safety best practices preferred

Implementing Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) preferred

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Problem-solving/troubleshooting skills that can translate to direct guidance of team members through complex issues.

Experience using MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
