We currently have an opportunity to join our team of talented and diverse Faculty and Staff as a Learning Specialist.

Required Qualifications: This position requires a bachelor’s degree and a demonstrated strong background in mathematics. A background in computer science is favorable. The position also requires one (1) year of related work experience in teaching, tutoring, or other academic support.

Working Hours: Work hours will vary between 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and may require reporting to more than one DSC campus.

The salary is $38,500.

Key Responsibilities:

Plans, coordinates and presents individualized and/or group academic assistance to students. Mentors and evaluates peers/professional tutors.
Prepares, coordinates, and conducts orientations, training, and/or workshops for students, faculty, staff and volunteers.
Assists students with using computerized or other multimedia equipment. Troubleshoot malfunctioning computers and printers.
Creates and updates supplemental resources to assure programs and services conform to best practices.
Maintains a current knowledge base of the assigned disciplines to be able to provide academic support.
Gathers, verifies, and maintains information to support periodic and special reports documenting activities and events for assigned areas. Reviews and processes daily paperwork.
Attends staff meetings to exchange information. Attends professional seminars, conferences and/or observes Daytona State College classes to improve academic and/or professional skills.
Maintains and safeguards equipment, materials, and supplies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The successful candidate must be able to relate to and work with students individually and/or in small groups, exercise good judgment and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. They will exercise strong organizational skills, work in a multiple-task environment, promote positive student, faculty and staff relations and relate to the adult student population.
